Podcasts

In 2007 I began writing, producing and hosting content for a radio magazine. As a result, my shows were broadcast on various radio stations. It was through that time that I also began experimenting with podcasts, which are like internet radio series. I now produce and self-publish two podcasts weekly with hundreds of subscribers between them.

Clicking on the podcast links below will take you directly to each podcast's webpage. Subscription options are available in the "Subscribe To This Podcast" subheading located at the bottom right hand section of each podcast's individual page.

Insightful and inspiring two-cents

This podcast began as a way to release two years' worth of unexpressed creativity. So I experimented with deejaying music but mostly did commentary and "newsy" reports on a couple of different topics. I also threw in some short stories I'd written here and there.

The shows have a more refined purpose these days - providing reflection & insight with the aim of inspiring and empowering my listeners to live their best lives.

2 Cents of My Sense and Other Nonsense attracted over 100 new subscribers from late April through late May 2009.

This podcast is hosted by my English alter ego Dr. Violet Black-Cherry. Think of her as the cool 35-year old aunt whose 20-something nieces go to for advice on how to manage worrisome happenings.

As the title of the podcast implies, the episodes deal specifically with worry management techniques.
The techniques, experiences and "clients" mentioned within the podcast stem from personal experience. Through Dr. Violet and this podcast I basically share what has worked for me in dealing with that pesky nuisance called worry.

Take That Worry and Shove It attracted over 80 new subscribers from late April through late May 2009.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: So why not do this podcast from first person? Why not use your own voice instead of adopting an accent and fictional character?

A: Well, the answer's rather simple. I sat down to begin writing the episodes in first person but it just didn't flow like I wanted it to. I wasn't enjoying the writing & creation process. I have a fascination with accents & started messing around with this fictional character. I found that when I spoke in her voice and became this character, the episodes FLOWED pretty much effortlessly. So I stuck with it.

Q: Why the name Dr. Violet Black-Cherry?

A: I thought it would be fun to have this psychologist-type persona. Also, at the time of this podcast's inception my hair color was technically red violet and I drove a black cherry-colored vehicle (the technical color of the car as listed from the dealership). Purple is my favorite color so I just went with the purple theme.

Q: What are Dr. VBC's/your qualifications to teach this stuff?

A:  Dr. Violet Black-Cherry graduated summa cum laude and holds a bachelors degree from BAASC (Broke As All Hell College), has a masters degree from FASU (Frustrated As Hell University) and recently got her PhD at the School of LIAF (Life Is Actually Fabulous). Does that answer the question? ;-)
